Levin painter Iris Reesby is currently exhibiting in Levin’s community centre, Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō.
She has a selection of stunning oil paintings on show of, among others, dogs, a horse, birds, hawks and falcons, owls, irisses, poppies, and a tui.
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays she is there in person with her paint brushes and easel to demonstrate her work and chat to friends and passers-by, many of whom stop for a chat.
“I started painting when I was 16, but for many years life got in the way,” she says. “I have only picked it up again since I moved back to Levin 13 years ago.”

Iris has had good grounding in the finer points of painting delicate details, a craft she learnt many years ago in her first job.
“I worked at a photography studio in the days of black and white photographs. It was my job to colour in the photos to make them look as close to the original as possible.”
While she has painted horses, dogs, birds of all kinds and flowers, her favourite subjects are owls.
“I so love owls,” she says.
She hasn’t done any portraits of humans yet.
Iris has exhibited her work at Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō as well as a few cafes in the past, and is an enthusiastic member of the Horowhenua Art Society.
All her paintings are for sale, so head to the Levin library to make your selection.
