
A couple of Ōhau friends entered their calves in a competition deep in dairy country and came away with the lion’s share of cups and ribbons.
Ava Hapeta-Colling and Karli Westerby took Sassy and Fern to the Stratford Royal AP&I Show recently, after success at a local schools competition representing Levin Intermediate School, and a regional show at Manfeild.

Ava and Karli presented Sassy and Fern in top order at Stratford, against top opposition from big farms. The resulting Royal Show ribbons were reward for the months the friends spent grooming, feeding and cleaning out paddock shelters, not to mention pre-show finishing touches.
Ava and Sassy won Grand Champion, while Karli and Fern won Champion Leader.
RESULTS: Stratford AP and I Royal Show: Ava and Sassy: Grand champion calf, champion dairy type calf, reserve champion calf, 1st care and rearing, 1st dairy type, 3rd leading, 4th group leading. Karli Westerby and Fern: 1st leading calf, champion leader, 4th group leading, 3rd dairy type, 2nd care and rearing.
