A “calling” led trained physiotherapist Ben Schischka to change career tack and become a church minister and officer with the Salvation Army.
Now a calling of a different kind – this one from a different type of head office – has the Schischka family leaving Levin for Hamilton.
Ben, wife Karen and children Nathan, Luke, Jordan and Nadia were initially transferred from Orewa to Levin in 2020.
“Although it’s sad to be leaving Taitoko and our friends, we’ve loved our time here and it’s a great community – we are also excited about the future,” Ben says.
Ben had originally trained and was working a physiotherapist in Hamilton when he had a “calling”. That was 15 years ago.
“I was listening to people and learning how to manage their pain and heard God calling.”
The Schischka family have served in Levin for the past five years. The role is more than just pastoral and congregation; they are there to serve their community in addition to their church fellowship.
The Christmas Day service will be their last. They will be replaced at Levin early in the new year by Nathan and Jessica Bezzant and family, who have been stationed in Taupō.
