Two newcomers for HK cricket

Horowhenua-Kāpiti Cricket pathway and development manager Artha Liyanage is leaving the province to take a position as pathway and talent coach with Northern Districts Cricket.

Since arriving in 2022 Artha has contributed both on and off the field as a player for the HK Bears team, and as a coach and mentor. HKCA chief executive Mike Pearson says he wanted to thank Artha for his contribution and wish him well on his new venture.

The association has welcomed two new employees who will fill similar roles as both players and in development to deliver support for school and junior cricket.

Former Sri Lankan first-class player Lasi Nimsara has taken the position as community cricket development officer and will turn out for the Paraparaumu Cricket Club this season as player/coach.

Lasi, who played senior club cricket in Auckland last season, will soon be joined in a similar capacity by Englishman Harry Kendall, who is due to arrive in the country at the start of next month in time for the start of the club season. Harry, a wicket-keeper batsmen, will team up with the Weraroa Cricket Club in Levin.

Lasi and Harry will continue to coordinate participation in all levels of cricket – particularly school and junior levels cricket through initiatives like the Smash Play Festivals, and First Smash programmes.
