The Build Our Road logo, designed and owned by the Horowhenua NZ Trust, featured in many articles and posts related to the Ō2NL expressway – the good and the sad stories.
The ensuing campaign, which included protest meetings and a march through Levin, was led by then MP for Ōtaki Nathan Guy.
He garnered support from fellow MPs, including Chris Bishop and Simeon Brown, who turned out for events supporting the expressway.
Antony Young, who lost his blueberry farm to the expressway plans, became the spokesperson for the campaign to get the expressway built properly with four lanes, overbridges and a shared cycle/foot pathway.
Victory was declared two years ago, but now the expressway is under threat – again. So it’s time for locals to hit the barricades again and let NZTA and Parliament know we are less than impressed with their revised plans.
A series of articles written on many aspects of the expressway resulted in a finalist place in the 2020 Voyager Media Awards for best editorial campaign or project in a newspaper.
